A lousy day 5th Dec Sofia- Rose Valley- Veliko Tarnovo
After breakfast. We embarked on a scenic drive through the balkan mountains across Shipka Pass to the valley of roses. We visited a rose oil distillery (now no rose as it is winter) where we will experience the traditional production of the famous Bulgarian rose oil, distillate from Rosa Damascrna's blossoms. In the past, 1500 rose petals is needed to extract 1 ml of rose oil essence.
Thereafter, we drove and arrive at the old Bulgarian capital, Veliko Tarnovo with stone houses perched one above the other on the steep banks f the meandering Yantra River.
By right we should have continue to fortress. But we missed it. We reached at around rpm, room 20 min for toilet and admission closes at 4pm.
We continued to visit Tsarevets Hill where the walls of the restored medival fortress rise above the city and surround the Patriarchal Church at its peak.
A fortress that will be missed (literally and figuratively):
We were brought by the tour guide into a shop that sells rose oil products again!
After eating so many desserts, I came out with a video clip on common balkan desserts.
